JRC 2019 - a great start to a new season

11th Jelgavas Roni (JR) Cup was held in Jelgava (Latvia) on the 1st and the 2nd November 2019. Simultaneously it was the 1st stage of the Latvian winter swimming championship and the 1st stage of International Winter Swimming Association (IWSA) World Cup! 

290 winter swimmers from 21 country participated in the JRCup 2019 (Latvia, Finland, United Kingdom, Russia, Estonia, Sweden, Belarus, USA, Australia, Argentina, Brazil, Germany, Czech Republic, Denmark, China, Poland, Ireland, Spain, Slovenia, Slovakia and Chile).  On the whole, there were 107 heats with ~600 individual starts (in 8 distances – 25m, 50m, 100m and 450m freestyle, 25m, 50m and 100m breaststroke, 25m butterfly). 56 swimmers from 9 age groups took part in the 450m endurance swim (17 women and 39 men).

In 2 category relay swims (S1 - up to 150 years (the sum of participants' ages) and S2 - more than 150 years) 15 teams competed for the “JR Cup 2019”. The first place in category S1 was won by the team "JR Ice Torpedos", Jelgava, Latvia (with result 00:53,66 seconds), in the category S2 it was the team "SBORNAYA ROSSII-1" from St.Petersburg (with result 00:53,82). Both winning teams were awarded with the “JR Cup 2019”.

The “Nations Cup” was awarded to the Russian team that scored the highest points in all categories, the 2nd place went to Latvia, the 3rd to Estonia, the 4th to Finland, the 5th to Poland. Special cups were given to one best female swimmer – Jade Perry from United Kingdom, and one best male swimmer – Lars Maks from Germany. This award was introduced for the first time and it was highly appreciated by participants.
